Using SLAM with Project Server 2007

Aug 3, 2009 at 4:35 PM

Hello

I've been playing with SLAM on a couple of SharePoint sites and it's wonderful!  I'm using it to pull list data into SQL tables so I can report on them with SQL Reporting Services 2008.  It's so much easier than trying to query the data through the web service :)

We have a couple of lists that are stored in our Project Server 2007 implementation.  Having installed SLAM, I went to the root of the Project Server (in our case http://projects/projectweb), Site Actions, then Site Settings.  There is no Site Collection Administration section.  There is nothing at http://projects either, it's just the route of the Web Application.  It seems that, with the way Project Web Access sites are provisioned, there just isn't a Site Collection on which to activation the SLAM Feature.

I could really do with getting SLAM working on this as I could really do with having this list data in SQL.

Any suggestions very very welcome!

thanks

I am not familiar with Project Server so if it is possible to use site collection features in Project Server I would not know.  However, so long as you would have permission to do so can you activate the feature via stsadmn?  If you activate it using stsadmn, drop your slam config into your project server site directory,  then navigate to /_layouts/SLAM/SLAMControlPanel.aspx then I would expect you could still use SLAM.  The only concern would be permissions.

Hi Brian

Thanks for the quick reply!

How do I find out what the GUID of the SLAM feature is?

thanks

Look in the feature.xml for the feature in \12\TEMPLATE\FEATURES\SLAM

I really should think before I post....

Found it in feature.xml in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\TEMPLATE\FEATURES\SLAM.  Assuming that it is the id=7a5c5b0e-9ede-4cfe-b72d-2b84a4ddef5f line that is...

Okay, so I ran:

stsadm -o activatefeature -id 7a5c5b0e-9ede-4cfe-b72d-2b84a4ddef5f -url http://projects/projectweb

No complaints from MOSS at all.  Browsing to http://projects/projectweb/_layouts/SLAM/SLAMControlPanel.aspx brings up the usual "Welcome to the SLAM Control Panel!" screen... so far so good.

I'll post back a little later when I'm had a chance to set up the slam.config file and tried SLAMing that list I want in SQL.

thanks for your help Brian!

Cool!  It seems to work okay once I had the slam.config set up.  So, no problems with Project Server 2007, just activate using STSADM and manually type in the URL to the config (as there is no Site Collection Administration select to display the SLAM Control Panel link).

I do have a problem with some of the fields not coming through but I don't think that's PWS specific so I'll post that in another thread.

thanks for your help!
