SLAM Installation Guide

Before installing SLAM, you'll need to have SharePoint up and running on a server you have access to. Either WSS 3.0 or MOSS 2007 will work fine. If you don't have SharePoint installed, there are a bunch of great guides out there.
  1. SLAM requires the .NET Framework 3.5 SP 1. Ensure it is installed on your server. Download it here.
  2. Download the latest version of SLAM. You can find it in the Releases tab.
  3. You'll receive a WSP File and an EXE. Run that EXE on your server.
  4. Once installed, you should see SLAM listed in the features available for your site collection.
  5. Activate the SLAM site collection feature.
  6. Create an external database (note that out of the box, SLAM is set up to use a SQL Server database).
  7. Setup your config file. SLAM comes with a skeleton of the config file, which should help you to fully flesh it out. This is dropped in the virtual directory of each web application where SLAM is installed under /resources. Copy the slam.dummy.config into the root of the virtual directory and rename it slam.config. You will need to input the proper connection strings, list mappings and custom field type mappings. For information on setting up your config file, click here -- If you receive a "File Not Found" error from SharePoint when navigating to the SLAMControlPanel.aspx it is very likely you do not have the .NET Framework 3.5 SP 1 installed.
  8. Use the SLAM Control Panel to validate your slam.config. Just hit validate, make changes, and keep testing it until the control panel shows every type and field as being matched.
  9. Press the "Activate/Reactivate SLAM" button on the SLAM Control Panel to fully activate SLAM. This is will generate database tables and attach SLAM's event handlers to your configured Lists and Content Types and you can start "slamming" data.
